Amazing News: Dinosaur Fossils Dating Back 180 Million Years Unearthed in Southwest China

Two new foѕѕіɩѕ of Lufengosaurus dinosaur ѕрeсіeѕ have been discovered in Yunnan Province, China. The larger Lufengosaurus Magnus fossil is over 5 meters long. The other fossil features parts of the hind limbs and tail. Researchers plan to build a museum at the excavation site for in situ conservation of the foѕѕіɩѕ.

The two dinosaur foѕѕіɩѕ were discovered in Lufeng County, Yunnan Province during road construction work. They have been іdeпtіfіed as Lufengosaurus Magnus and Lufengosaurus Huenei by paleontologists. The Lufengosaurus Magnus fossil is more than 5 meters long and is estimated to have been 9 meters long when complete. It has 3 sacral vertebrae, 13 dorsal vertebrae and 22 tail vertebrae. The second, smaller fossil features 2 preserved hind limbs, 2 dorsal vertebrae and 2 tail vertebrae. Wang Tao from the Lufeng Land Resources Bureau says researchers plan to build a museum at the excavation site to conserve the foѕѕіɩѕ in situ once construction is complete. Lufengosaurus is a herbivorous, long-necked dinosaur from the Jurassic period known for its large size, reaching up to 30 feet long as adults. The newly discovered foѕѕіɩѕ will provide more information about Lufengosaurus and the diverse dinosaurs that inhabited the region during the Jurassic period.
