After analysis, scientists determined that this mᴜmmу was up to 30,000 years old, that is, from the ice age . The special point is that after spending tens of thousands of years, this mᴜmmу still has not disintegrated.

Its appearance is quite similar to modern Arctic ground squirrels. Arctic ground squirrels now inhabit Arctic terrain on both sides of the Bering Strait.
Paleontologist Grant Zazula said: “We were very excited to learn that this ancient squirrel was so perfectly preserved. We had initially assumed that its bones might have been greatly dаmаɡed by time. too long.”
Scientists have named this squirrel’s mᴜmmу “Hester” after the area where it was found. They determined that Hester dіed while hibernating. Because Arctic ground squirrels also curl up like balls inside leaf-lined nests placed underground when hibernating. Previously, archaeologists have found many similar nests, but they are often empty.
