Battle of the crocodiles. Shocking moment croc goes cannibal

This is the moment a 16ft cannibal crocodile shows a smaller rival who’s boss.

The saltwater creature named Maxi made a meal out of the beast, less than half his size, as a group of tourists looked on in horror.

The footage has emerged from a tour in Kakadu National Park, Australia, and shows the croc’s brutal killing power at its most formidable.

Images were posted on Kakadu Tourism’s Facebook page, accompanied by the quote: “Beauty … AND THE BEAST. You never know what you’re going to see on Yellow Water, Kakadu.”

Nikki Davies, a tour guide with Yellow Water Cruises who took the photos, said it was a reminder of “supreme power of nature”.

He told The Australian: “At first we thought they were fighting, but as we went around the corner a bit more you could see what had happened.

“He’d just sunk his teeth into the brain and eyes which was horrible because we could still see it alive,” Nikki continued. “I think it was about showing off who’s the boss in the area.”

Crocodiles are cannibalistic, which is why reptiles in a group will usually be a similar size and smaller ones avoid larger ones.

Male saltwater crocodiles can grow to be more than six metres, while female ones grow to about three metres.
