Cambodia’s Environment Minister, Say Samal, announced that the country’s archaeologists have uncovered a dinosaur fossil on Koh Por Island in Koh Kong province, marking the first such discovery in Cambodia.
The fossil, comparable in size to an elephant, was found near the Tatai Wildlife Sanctuary in Koh Kong province. Heng Brady, the director of the province’s environment department, гeⱱeаɩed that researchers dedicated about a year to studying the fossil, ultimately concluding that it belonged to a dinosaur.
On October 27, Lim Vanchan, director of the һeгіtаɡe office at Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment, disclosed that the age of the fossil was estimated to be between 65-190 million years. Seeking further expertise, he mentioned plans to involve three French experts in the research team by mid-November.
Additionally, Vanchan reported that the fossil image was presented at an international conference in November 2021, featuring the participation of experts from the US, France, and Thailand, according to the Phnom Penh Post.
